Bought this jacket for our 13-year-old son for the next year's skiing season (2017-2018). He is 5'3" tall now, and we got the jacket in size XL, the biggest available. It will be a perfect fit in time for the winter.The materials and craftsmanship is top-notch, as it is always the case with Spyder. Good value too. All the necessary features, except pit vents. I don't know why Spyder doesn't make kids jackets with vents, while Obermeyer can. The Spyder Challenger model is slightly cheaper than Leader, but it doesn't have cuff velcro closures.In addition to this jacket, we got our son a new helmet -- Salomon Quest Access in "gecko green", which matches the "sulfur" accent on this jacket very well.Overall, this is a great jacket. Get it now while the end-of-season prices are so good and it is still in stock.Totally agree that this jacket runs incredibly small. My son is 13 and average size- maybe even a little on the small side for 13 . The size 18 is actually a little snug for him! As for warmth- I was concerned given how thin the jacket is but everything I read said that the materials used are such that provide great warmth. Sometimes it's hard to believe that something so thin could actually be warmer than something that's a lot "puffier" but I do believe this to be a warm coat as he has no complaints about it not being warm. We intend to use it for skiing in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.I don't know what it is with Spyder. They cannot seem to get sizing right. They make a decent product, but somehow the concept of correct sizing eludes them. My son is 12. I ordered this size 14 and it barely fit. I am sending back for a size 16. It will be too large, but at least it will last a few years.This jacket is awesome; HOWEVER, my son is a size 10 so I ordered him a 12 and it BARELY fit him. So I had to exchange it for a 14. So keep that in mind they do run small. The quality and actual jacket I am very impressed with. SHipping was also super fast.Many reviewers are saying these jackets are really small. Maybe those were older models. We think they maybe run 1 size small, but not grosly small. I ordered 10 and 12 for my 7 yr old to try since he would normally wear an 8--but 8 was plenty big. My 9 year old. Is wearing size 10 with room to grow before next season. Purchased summer 2017.love how quickly it came in the mail. the only issue I found was it runs pretty small. I got a size 14 for a 10 year old and it is snug.My 7 year old loves this jacket! And we love it because it’s warm and windproof. This is his second Spyder Leader jacket and seems to be of the same great quality as the first. We would definitely recommend.Green is my sons FAVORITE color, he has always had Spyder ski jackets. This coat is 2 thumbs up!
