I bought these for my very slim son. He is 12, but I ordered the size 8. They fit him, but he did mention (after he had worn them and I had washed them) that they were a little hard to fit over his hips. Since I couldn't exchange them, I passed them on and ordered the next size up (10/12). They are, of course, a little bigger on him in the waist so I'm super glad there is a drawstring, and slightly longer in length. They will probably last him 2 summers at least. I love that there are zippers on the pockets and a drawstring in the waist. They are not made of a stretchy material, but the nylon is lightweight and dries quickly if they get wet. I would've ordered a second set in a different color, but he doesn't like the camo pattern. Good value, especially if you have a slim kid and have a hard time finding shorts that fit in the waist.
